Benefits of being an Augusta Genealogical Society Member

Subscription to the AGS Newsletter
AGS publishes a quarterly newsletter called “Southern Echoes.”  It contains important information about events, trips, and Society business.  It also has genealogical articles and summarizes recent queries that may be of interest to you.  This newsletter is free to members.  We hope to make all past issues of the newsletters available to members online in the near future.  This is nearly 5500 pages of genealogical information.  For more information about  Southern Echoes, click here.

On-line Access to AGS Programs and Webinars
AGS Members have special access to all of the Webinars, AGS Quarterly Programs, and other special programs in the Members Area if the AGS Website. Catch up on programs you may have missed anytime or review previous webinars to brush up on your skills.

Special On-line Access
AGS Members have special access to back issues of the AGS quarterly newsletter, “Southern Echoes,” as well as all issues of Ancestoring, and much more!

Discounted Seminars and Workshops
Members receive a discount on registration fees for AGS seminars and workshops.  AGS has an annual all-day seminar called Homecoming normally held in late summer/early fall featuring well known, genealogical experts.  In addition, we conduct beginner and intermediate genealogy workshops at various times throughout the year.  On occasion, we will also have other seminars.  For instance, in 2018 AGS conducted an all-day Irish seminar featuring representatives of the Ulster Society in Ireland. Cor more information on our upcoming events click here.

Queries
Members can submit simple queries at no cost by writing or e-mailing (no phone calls please) the Research Roundtable.  Non-members pay a fee of $25/hour.

AGS Publications
Members have access to all AGS publications. This includes Ancestoring, which is a 13 volume journal.  This is over 1000 pages of really great genealogical information.  All issues of Ancestoring  are available to AGS members  in our online members area.  In addition, you have access to all books published by AGS including the nearly 80 cemetery inscription books, all of the over 120 books by Ray and Jane Rowland, the Summerville and Magnolia Cemetery books, along with numerous other books.

Collections
Members have access to all of the AGS collections including the nearly 15,000 books, the over 120 boxes of special collections (Family History research of approximately 55 families), the loose papers collection (court records from the 1700s), the vertical files, just to name a few.

Historical records
The AGS research committee has been transcribing and indexing many colonial court records (i.e. account books, guardian books, estate records, delayed birth certificates, etc.), slave records, minute books, cemetery sexton records, special collections, church records, and bible records just to name a few.  These valuable indexes are available to members only.  We hope to have these indexes available to members online in the future.

Research Trips
Many of our trips have a limited number of participants available.  Members get preferred registration for all trips.
