Probate Court Account Book Records
Index
The Richmond County Probate Courthouse records include Account Books. These are books of estate, guardian, and trust accounts that report to the court how the funds were dispersed. In many instances, the assets were given to relatives of the deceased, and their names are included in the reports to the courts.
These books are entitled, Accounts 1793-1798, Accounts A, Accounts B, Accounts C, etc, progressing multiple times through the alphabet to Accounts ZZZ. There are a total of 78 books that cover the period of time from 1793 to 1905. To make it easy to search for your ancestor, the AGS Historical Documents Committee has transcribed and indexed all 78 Account books, providing a list of 32,000+ surnames. Every name in the first 7 books (1793-1840) is included in the index. The remaining 71 books (1840-1905) include the names of the persons whose estates were being settled.
