Probate Court Year’s Support
Inventory and Appraisement Book Records

Index
The Richmond County Probate Courthouse records include “Year’s Support Inventory and Appraisement Account Sales” books (I & A Books). These are books that report to the court the inventory and appraisement of the belongings of estates, guardians, and trust accounts prior to settlement.
These books are entitled, I & A Book-1785-1790, I & A Book-1795-1798, I & A Book A, I & A Book B, I & A Book C, etc, progressing through the alphabet to I & A Book Z.  There are a total of 27 books that cover the period of time from 1785 to 1920.  To make it easy to search for your ancestor, the AGS Historical Documents Committee has transcribed and indexed all 27 I & A books, providing a list of 18,000+ surnames. Every name abstracted from the first 2 books (1785-1798) is included in the index. In addition, all the surnames in Books A, B, & E were indexed. The remaining 22 books include only the names of the persons whose estates were being inventoried and appraised. Click here to see an example of the index.
The Index is available for use at the Adamson Library on the Family Room computer.  Please contact us at [email protected] to schedule an appointment.
The Index is also available to current AGS members in the Members Area of this site.  Click here to join AGS   This Index is NOT to be downloaded, copied or printed without prior written AGS approval.  AGS Members:  Click here to see the Index.
In addition, AGS is in the process of publishing this index in a book that should be available to purchase in by the end of 2023.
