Blanchard Funeral Home, Thomson, GA
The Blanchard Funeral Home began operation in the early 1930’s and continued to operate into the 1970s. Over the 40 year period that Blanchard was in business, they made arrangements for over 3000 persons, the earliest of which was born in 1840.
When someone wanted Blanchard to make arrangements for their loved one, Blanchard employees would collect personal information about the deceased and the type of arrangements that were requested. In 2021, the Blanchard family deeded 3089 of these forms to Augusta Genealogical Society. AGS has digitized, transcribed and indexed them. In 2024, AGS published a book of this index in 2024 and it is available at the Adamson Library (call# F292. M13 V4D3 A48) during normal business hours or by appointment. Elliott Funeral Home, Telfair Street, Augusta, GA
Elliott Sons operated a funeral home on Telfair Street, Augusta, GA from the end of World War II until 2013. During this time, they collected information about people who died in Augusta. It was recorded on 3x5 cards that they maintained until they closed.
In 2013, They deeded these cards to the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library Georgia Room. There are approximately 80,000 cards. These cards were digitized by the College Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a copy of these digitized cards was donated to AGS.
