GREETINGS FROM AGSWelcome again to all old and new perusers of this homepage for the Augusta (Georgia) Genealogical Society (AGS). Since physical location makes little difference on the Internet, member Jim Moore, located in Florida, created our Web site for us and maintains it. Jim's contacts with other genealogical groups regarding their experiences with the Internet provided guidance on methods to expand our ability, consistent with our bylaws, to "disseminate knowledge and information with reference to genealogical and related historical, biographical, and heraldic data...," without imposing excessive demands on our volunteers. We emphasized in our initial entry into cyberspace that our homepage would be strictly informational, not a means to promote lots of inquiries or conversations. As in all volunteer organizations, the time that most of us have available for work at the AGS is pretty well all utilized, and we simply do not have much time left to handle more inquiries than we received previously. However, Jim has added to this Web site a compatibility to accept inquiries directed to others, a "Self-Posting Query Page."We do hope this venture provides useful information to people who might not otherwise have been able to receive it, so we invite comments regarding its usefulness. If there is other information that you were looking for, but that we have not provided regarding the AGS, please let us know. We also hope that any of you who live near here and are able to do so will volunteer to become Librarians-of-the-Day or join the "Friday Group" who perform a variety of duties. In the following pages we provide information on the
types of resources we offer, including our publications.
We welcome all historians, genealogists and others seeking family information
to visit our library. Our address is 1109 Broad Street, and our telephone
number is We want you to come here and explore our resources for yourselves. For those who cannot visit us, our various publications, including our monthly "Southern Echoes," may hold some of the answers you have been looking for. So look at these pages, and see for yourselves if we offer something that may help you.
