AGS COMPUTER INTEREST GROUP
This page is a recent addition to the Augusta Genealogical Society's Homepage which, up to now, focused on profiling the Society as a resource for genealogical research in the Augusta, Georgia area. With the increasing interest being shown by genealogists in the use of computers, emerging information technology, and the Internet, the AGS decided to add a page which addresses the application of these new technologies to the field of genealogy. Our goal is to help steer the development and application of the new technologies in a way most beneficial to the genealogy community while striving to overcome any dangers and pitfalls associated with its advancement. Our initial effort will be directed at setting standards for use by genealogical societies and organizations and individuals in publishing genealogical information on the Internet. Your suggestions as to the subject matter you would like to see in the CIG Page are invited. Jim Moore, creator and original Webmaster of our Website, spoke on the subject of the information revolution and its impact on genealogy at the Augusta Genealogical Society's 1996 Annual Homecoming Seminar held in Augusta, Georgia on 24 August 1996.
